Hi, my name is Haley and I'm the "Bird" of Bird's Eye Embroidery! So as you were probably wondering, "Why is it called Bird's Eye?" It probably just clicked..."Oh, it's her nickname!" Yes, you are correct! I have answered to Haley or Bird my entire life. I'm the one who does all the embroidery work, and I'll be the one you talk to when you call, text, email, or come into the shop. My Mom is Cathy, whom you may also see when you come into the shop. She is a retired banker turned yarn expert and master knitter and crocheter! I only dabble in crochet, but I sure can tell you a thing or two about our yarn selection (one being it's awesome). Besides creating with yarn, one of our favorite things to do together is go to The Fabulous Fox Theater! We love musicals, and I have a collection of Playbills displayed proudly here at the shop of all the shows I have seen so far. Right now the number of Playbills is at 43! So, when you come in I'd be happy to make a recommendation!
Bird's Eye Embroidery was established in May of 2010, right after I graduated from McKendree University. I actually started planning this business during my last year and half or so of college. I get asked a lot how I got into embroidery, and in all honestly I dread that question! I say that because there really isn't one specific answer. All I know is that once the idea of doing embroidery was brought to my attention, I was hooked. I caught on so quick to the in's and out's of the machines and programs that it was clear to me that this was what I was supposed to do, and I haven't looked back since!
In November of 2011, I began to out grow the basement so I opened up a store front in my hometown of Mascoutah, IL. Oh boy, what a blessing it is to have a business in a small town! Since the beginning, I have mainly relied on word of mouth and recommendations from previous customers, friends, family, and people of the community, and Mascoutah has been a fantastic testament to my business. I am honored to say that I have done work for the local schools, businesses, and citizens.
In January of 2013, my Mom's dream of having a wall full of yarn came to life! After she retired, she started coming up to the shop to keep me company. She sort of created her own little space where she could relax and sit to crochet or knit. I wasn't really doing anything with that section of the shop, so I said she could do what she wanted with it, hence The Wall of Yarn was born! We have both learned so much about the different types of yarns since we've started selling it, and though it's a glorified hobby we both love it! We have a great selection of brands and various colors, and you can check them out here: The Wall of Yarn. But as my mom says, "Come on in to feel and squeeze as much as you want!" Oh, Mom....she means the yarn, of course.
I pride myself on providing the best quality embroidery you can imagine. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my profession, so you better believe that I put all my attention to every single order, big or small. I'll work with you to come up with a design by giving my opinions while listening to your ideas and wishes. Together we can create some amazing work! Just take a look at some of the custom designs I've had the pleasure of embroidering: Custom Designs.
If you've made it this far in the About section, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read and learn about my business. It is my life, my passion, and my career. I often reflect on how lucky I am to be a young small business owner. Sure, I love working for myself and making my own hours, but it's more than that. I get to learn something new every day, whether it's a new embroidery technique, a new type of yarn, or a new customer. Every day is different, every day is a surprise, and every day is a chance to put a smile on someone's face in a small way. So if you've been in before, I thank you for your business, and if you haven't...I look forward to meeting you soon!
